Karachi’s Aslam who used to be a rickshaw driver has now become a Facebook sensation, courtesy his phenomenal singing prowess. After a video of him singing was shared on social media, it created a whirlwind of sorts.

The video saw Alsam singing the very famous Bade Ghulam Ali Khan’s ‘thumri’ ‘Yaad Piya Ki Aaey’. What connected with the people the most was this ace auto driver’s soulful style of singing.

Netizens who viewed the video clip were so moved that they began enquiring about him. Someone managed to find out that Aslam was a resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s Perfume Chowk.

Within a few minutes of the upload, Aslam’s video was circulated more than thousand times.

And that is exactly when legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar noticed and couldn’t help praising his immaculate singing style. And Lataji even shared that particular clip on her own Facebook page.

This is what the music legend had to say about this talented man.

In the past, Aslam had a chance to bring out his fantastical vocal skills in front of the world when he reached the grand finale of a popular music competition.

Originally from Hyderabad, Aslam had an inclination towards music since his childhood. But since his father was a policeman, he did not approve of it and so Aslam did not get a chance to learn music in any form.

Passionate that he was, Aslam somehow managed to reach out to widely acclaimed singers, Ustad Umeed Ali Khan and Fateh Ali Khan in Hyderabad. Though he maintains he doesn’t have any formal training, but once he hears a composition, he manages to sing it the same way.

No wonder, Lataji said Aslam’s voice is god-gifted.

We do hope, his talent translates into something more fruitful. Wishing him all the luck and success.
