For men over the age of 40, prostate problems are common. As men age, their prostate tends to swell, or become infected and men are more susceptible to prostate cancer. Prostate problems including Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate, prostatitis, and cancer are extremely common. In fact, eight in 10 men will eventually develop an enlarged prostate and one in 10 men will develop prostate cancer.

Men are notorious for ignoring their health with the hopes that the problem will just go away. Prostate problems can be invented if men are willing to learn some of the tips that will help their prostate to stay in tip-top shape. The following tips are recommended for a healthier prostate:

Diet Supplements

Some nutrition researchers have suggested that daily doses of the mineral selenium, vitamin E or both may help to prevent prostate cancer. Before using any supplement, talk with your doctor. Taking vitamins, herbal medicines or nutritional supplements can pose health risks, especially in high doses.

Avoid Certain Foods and Beverages

Altering food consumption is one way to help the prostate. You should avoid overly spicy foods that may irritate your prostate. Other prostate irritants include coffee, tea, soda, and alcohol. Therefore, limiting the consumption of these beverages, especially before bed, can help. Some men are tempted to limit their fluid intake, to help relieve the painful feeling when having to urinate, but this is a bad idea. Continue to drink plenty of water since prostate swelling can lead to bladder infections if you’re not careful.

Exercise

From a physical standpoint, regular exercise is a good way to keep the prostate healthy as well as keeping your weight in a normal range. Obesity is a major factor in prostate irritation. For men that work at a desk all day, getting up and walking around at least once per hour can certainly help to take the pressure off the prostate.

Prostate Cleaning

One of the best and easiest ways to keep your prostate in check is to make sure it’s “cleaned out” often. This can mean different things to different men, but generally, it means that men should ejaculate every few days. We’ll leave that up to your imagination. Whether it’s done with a partner, by yourself or through a medical procedure, ejaculating on a regular basis can certainly help your prostate.
