Okay, so now you’re working out. Great! Now how are you going to get the most from your workouts? Eat hearty, sound, nutritional meals. Easier said than done, right? Not really. I have some ideas for meals that are easy and delicious. And fast – I have a toddler at home, and he will only watch cartoons for so long while I am cooking.

Do I really have to tell you to eat breakfast? IT IS SO IMPORTANT! You must start your metabolism first thing, to burn calories through the day. I do not want to hear that you get up too early, or are not a hungry first thing. I wake up at 5:30 for my first client and manage to have a good breakfast, so suck it up! Here are my faves:

Protein shake: Make sure you get a protein isolate – it gives the most bang for the buck. Take one scoop any flavor, mix with frozen fruit, nonfat yogurt, milk, water, flax seed, whatever you like. Nothing is faster, and you can drink it in the car on your way to work.

Homemade muesli: I invented this because I wanted a healthy alternative to cereal, which I love. To all those cereal junkies out there – most are full of junk and will not keep you full. I take a small handful of raw almonds, a small handful of raw, unsalted sunflower seeds and a sprinkle of raw oats and throw a cut up apple on top. (You could use any fruit you want) I add a sprinkle of vanilla and some skim milk. It is delicious and easy. It will also keep you satisfied and full of energy for your next meal.

Egg whites: Yes they are boring, but are pure protein and super low in calories. Add some feta or low-fat cheese and veggies to spice up your scramble or omelet.

Ezekiel bread: You will find this in the health food section of your grocery store, usually frozen. It’s great because it has no gluten or wheat – it is made from freshly sprouted grains so your body metabolizes them differently than regular bread. It is low glycemic and diabetic friendly too. My fave is the cinnamon raisin. You can have this toasted with real, natural peanut butter for an easy breakfast.

Any other breakfast ideas are welcome! Please please stop eating fast food breakfasts! Grab a piece of fruit or yogurt if you’re in a pinch. But I find with a little planning, a healthy breakfast is easy and will make you have crazy energy throughout the day!
