1. Let go of the past

This is something that cannot be changed so let go of all the negativity associated with it such as anger and frustrations about exes, failures in business and other bitter feelings. Instead, learn from the lessons the past has taught for they can be used in becoming a better man especially where romance is concerned.

Going on a date is part of moving forward and it is best done with a clean slate – mind, body, and soul. It helps a man become more attractive to women. It also helps him make better choices.

2. Calm the nerves

After a painful divorce or death of a wife, dating can become scary that brings up all sorts of fears. There are also many other things that can make the nerves go haywire so learn to calm them by taking a brisk walk for at least 10 minutes prior to meeting a date. Taking good deep breaths will also help, reminding oneself that a date ought to be enjoyable where one can meet the lady love of his life.

3. Lighten up and be fun

Meeting a new person for the purpose of romance is supposed to be fun and light so that both parties are able to connect comfortably. There is a child in every one is a child is always after to have fun, being themselves. Employ the simple mantra of “Have Fun & Be Social” and any man whether young or over 55 will emit pure energy that will be light and fun. It will also help if one is ready with funny stories up his sleeves.

4. Be Interesting and Interested

Knowing when to talk and when to listen is important for a man to enjoy a successful date. Blabbering away no end turns off any lady. Sometimes the nerves can get the better of a man which turns him into a chatterbox that is why it is vital to learn how to calm the nerves when out on a date.

Taking the time to listen to a woman can help a man understand her preferences. A man who understands a lady makes him very interesting, giving the impression that he is genuinely interested in his date.

5. Be a Good Man

At 55, one already knows what makes a good man. Women don’t go for the braggart, controlling and manipulative male species but for someone who is mature, dependable, respectful and responsible with whom they can be safe and secured. Like magic, attraction and romance follow a gentleman who is patient, well spoken, humble, able to listen, has good hygiene and knows how to have fun.

6. Be Positive – Not a Don the Downer

While women are good at sympathizing and nurturing, too much of pouring out negative experiences will not make a good impression on a date. A short touch on life’s challenges would be enough. A man who assumes a ‘Don the Downer’ attitude, telling all depressing and negative stories, will tire out any listener especially a lady date who a man should be trying to impress.

So as much as possible, share stories that are positive or something that may have started difficult but turned out positive after taking care of the situation.

7. Fat Tummy, No Honey

Physically impressing a date does not necessarily mean having an Arnold Schwarzenegger physique but at least look presentable as possible. Over 55 men (and women for that matter) naturally tend to be on the plump side. However, it is advisable to do some exercises to shed unnecessary pounds if a man is to find a great date. Not only will a man look great and feel confident despite the age, it will be beneficial, too, health-wise.

Look good inside out by cutting back on fatty foods and start eating healthy. Make sure to always look presentable with a good fashion sense. Hygiene is also very important hence the presence of deodorants, aftershave colognes, and mints for fresh breath. Have a professional treat persistent breath odor.

8. Be patient

Patience is a virtue so a man does not have to spill his guts and intimate desires the first 30 minutes of the date. The purpose of going out on a date is to find the right woman who might eventually share the bed with the right man but the man must know how to play it right by being patient.

Most women are little girls at heart who want to have fun, mystery and adventure and a patient man has the time to take a lady to the museum, the art gallery, a concert at the park and all other interesting places. Eventually, there will be plenty of time to be very intimate when a woman feels comfortable enough with the man.

9. Be romantic

To treat a woman right, a man needs to be romantic. For men, aged 55 and above, they know that same age bracket women are past playing games where relationships are concerned. Rather, they appreciate men who know how to romance it up whether it is the first date or whether the date is on a regular basis already.

A romantic Romeo…

  • is at the date venue way ahead of time
  • greets his date by standing up, shaking the lady’s hand gently and politely or gives her a polite peck on the cheek
  • opens the door for the lady with an open pleasant smile and manly attitude
  • walks along his girl with patience
  • pulls out the seat for his lady and seats her at a table
  • gets his lady a glass of water
  • focuses attentively on his date
  • lets his date order for herself
  • knows how to go easy on the alcohol to remain focused and in control of his thoughts and words
  • sits at an angled 45 degrees from his date to make communication easier, making the lady feel less threatened, too.

10. On the first date, a Gentleman Pays, Always!

Despite the modern times, a perfect gentleman always pays on the first date. The date does not necessarily have to be in an expensive restaurant to impress a woman. A lady may insist on a Dutch treat but a man should know how to be in total control of who pays. Dutch treats may be agreed upon on later dates as the relationship progresses.

Certainly, a man at this age can still enjoy a good date and a healthy romantic relationship with an interesting lady. It is about having fun with mastered romantic skills. To enjoy a healthy intimate relationship, love the way you want to be loved.
