What Makes Italy So Wonderful?

Having spent quite a large amount of time in Italy, this is a country that I have certainly grown to love. Some people ask me what it is that makes Italy so great. In truth, there are many factors.

Different visitors probably pick out various attractions that draw them to the country. For many, it is all about the history and the culture.

From the Roman ruins of Rome, Pompeii and Herculaneum to the wonderful architecture of Florence and Pisa, it’s clear that this is a country that is steeped in history. For romantics, Venice often holds a particularly special place in the heart.

Each of these locations is great places to spend a holiday. There are few places in Europe where history mixes so easily with the present, where it seems so critical that the countryside should always look beautiful.

Travelling through the countryside of Tuscany and Umbria, you can’t help but enjoy the scenery. This is the land of vineyards, olive oil and beautiful, long lunches.

The large cities offer a different selection of scenes, but there are so many beautiful buildings that it’s hard to see how you could tire of this historic places.

What of the people and social life here? This is a country where the people have a natural warmth and always seem to want to get the most out of life.

Part of that enjoyment can be seen in the way that they prepare and eat food. With fresh ingredients and simple recipes, they always seem able to produce delightful dishes to savour.

From Sicily to Lake Garda, there are so many wonderful places to visit and spend time that it can be difficult choosing where to begin.

So what would I advise? The answer is undoubted to visit Italy as often as you possibly can – try out different locations on each visit and make sure that you return here often!
