The heartthrob of young in India is no other than Katrina Kaif. Born in Hongkong, British national Katrina Kaif is one of the most popular actresses in Bollywood. She has appeared in many Hindi and Telugu movies. Katrina started her modeling career at age of 14 after approached by an agent for a jewelry campaign. Renowned filmmaker Kaizad Gustad discovered this hidden gem during modeling job and gave her a part in his film Boom, released in 2003. Although Boom didn’t do good on box office, it did bring Katrina’s sex appeal on golden screen yet Bollywood was not ready to give her chance because she wasn’t able to speak Hindi.
Katrina’s first success in Bollywood was 2005 film “Sarkar”, where she did the brief role as lover interest of Abhishek Bachchan. Her biggest role was Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, released in 2005, where she was paired opposite Salman Khan, now her boyfriend. She scored The Stardust Award for breakthrough female performance.
After this much-found celebrity status, Bollywood directors literally lined up to sign her for big budget movies. Being versatile actresses she is, she played the negative character in Abbas Mastan’s action thriller “Race”. She has performed many roles with Akshay Kumar including her latest super hit film “Singh Is Kinng”.
In the year 2008, Katrina was also voted the ‘Sexiest Asian Woman’ in a poll conducted by Eastern Eye, pushing last year winner Bipasha Basu to the second spot. Katrina also featured among the Top 10 in 3 different categories in Google’s 2008 India Zeitgeist lists, she was the only “person” in the top 10 list as others are object or places. Katrina topped the ‘Most Popular Bollywood Celebrity’ category, along with No.3 in the ‘Fast Rising Searches’ category and at No.10 in the ‘Most Popular Searches’ category. Online video site YouTube is literally overflowing with user-uploaded videos of Katrina.
Katrina also plays an active part in philanthropy, Katrina visited Dharavi, a slum of India and played with street children as a part of an event organized by Salman Khan’s Being Human foundation.
Katrina has won many critically acclaimed awards including 2008 IIFA Award for Best Female Style Icon. Katrina is one of the highest paid actresses in Bollywood and must feel like Alice in Bollywood wonderland.
