Below is a list of the things that we think can help to make a really good gym or fitness centre for you to train in or get fit in:

Facilities – Some of the more modern gyms have all the facilities in the world whereas some of the smaller and independent centres often lack some of the facilities that you are looking for. If you need a gym that has lots of changing rooms, space and showers, then you need to make sure that the gym has this before you sign up for a membership.

Equipment – Depending on the level of investment made in the gym, you will often find lots of new and modern equipment that you can plan your sessions around. Some pieces of equipment are better for some physical aspects than others, so you need to speak to the training professionals at the gym and work out if they have the right equipment for you.

Location – You do not want to be coming home from work and then spending an hour driving to and from your gym, so location is quite vital when it comes to what makes a good gym. You need to find one that is close to your home or your work because the closer it is then the higher the chance that you are going to use it regularly.

Price – Like many things in life, the price of your gym membership or the pay as you go price option will dictate whether you use that gym or not. As long as you think you are getting value for money then you will often enjoy yourself more at the gym, whereas if you are paying for something that you are not really getting the most out of then it can be a costly waste of money.

Numbers – If the gym has too many members then at peak times you can often find yourself surrounded by too many people, which can make your experience a little bit uncomfortable and unrewarding.

Opening Times – With more and more of us working longer or unsociable hours, it is important to try and find a local gym that opens at the times that you are going to find suitable. Some gyms are pretty much open all day, but some of the smaller and independent gyms will only open the hours that are the most profitable or proven peak busy times.

Above all, as long as you enjoy going to the gym and you are committed, you can pretty much make use of any gym or fitness centre in your local area, as long as you feel that you are getting the right level of service from them.
