Importance of Exercise

Nobody wants to hear the dreaded exercise word or worse yet do it. On the other hand, there are those people who overdo and end up with injuries or burn out. The key is balance not to overdo and not avoid it either. There are many reasons why exercise is important, however, we are focusing on the Top 3.

1. The top reason why exercise is important is that it improves our quality of life. It keeps you looking and feeling young longer. Ageing is a fact of life; however, when you exercise you can avoid many of the health problems that zap the life out of you. Things like high blood pressure, osteoporosis, heart disease, strokes and diabetes. Of course, for best results, you need to combine exercise with good eating habits. What you eat is just as important as what you do.

2. Which brings us to the second top reason why exercise is important and that is weight management. Whatever you are worried about weight gain or loss exercise can do both it can put on weight or take it off. Managing your weight is very important not only for physical reasons but for psychological ones as well. A person who does not feel good about how they look can get low self-esteem, stress and emotional disorders like depression.

3. The third reason why exercise is important is that it keeps muscles strong and flexible. As we age muscles deteriorate this is normal. However, when we exercise it slows down the ageing process so that we can remain independent and mobile longer. We want to stay healthy as long as we can so that we will enjoy our lives and not have to depend on our families to take care of us.

You can see why exercise is important for our overall physical and mental health. But remember balance is the key. More is not always better, especially if you’re a beginner. You do not want injuries or strains so start off easy and build intensity over time.
