Every morning you send your kids off to school. You give them their lunch, their books, and you wish them best of luck. But is there anything else that you can equip your kids with to ensure that they have the most productive day at school. The answer is “yes.” There are certain foods which you can feed your children which will positively influence their brain growth and function.

One such food is salmon. This particular fatty fish is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids DHS and EPA, both of which are essential for healthy brain growth and function. Many studies have shown that people who consume a diet rich in salmon have sharper minds and perform a lot better at mental skill tests. Eggs are yet another brain food. Not only are eggs rich in protein, but they also provide the body with choline. Choline encourages proper memory development.

Peanut butter is a third brain healthy food. This particular treat is laden with vitamin E and thiamin. Vitamin E is an antioxidant which protects the nervous system membranes, whereas, thiamin helps the brain and the nervous system use glucose for energy. Whole grains are also great for the mind. This particular food group is essential as it helps the brain receive a constant supply of glucose. The fiber that is present in whole grains helps to regulate the release of glucose into the body. This particular food group is also rich in B vitamins, which nourish a healthy nervous system. Oats/oatmeal is the fifth excellent brain food. This particular food provides a kid’s brain with an abundance of energy and fuel. It is loaded with fiber, vitamin E, B vitamins, potassium, and zinc all of which make our bodies and our brain function to its full capacity. So the next time you are sending your child off to school, make sure that you equip them with one or more of these brain-boosting meals.
