No matter how svelte your figure is, how lustrous your hair looks, no matter you smell of Chanel No. 5, the first thing that grabs everyone’s attention is how radiant your face looks. An even skin tone, a natural glow on face is on every girl’s beauty wish list but getting a healthy and glowing skin depends on a lot of parameters.

Firstly, food habits, sleep pattern, type of lifestyle and everyday water consumption. Considering that most women are working and are financially independent today, salon visits and skin treatments or buying branded cosmetics are not doable things on a daily basis.

So, we decided to fall back on age-old home-made beauty secrets, face masks and tips that working women as well as home-makers can easily follow. After ransacking our grandma’s treasure trove of beauty secrets, we compiled a list of 5 DIY beauty tips for that healthy and glowing skin.

#1. Curd, Besan (Gram Flour) Face Pack With A Pinch Of Turmeric Powder

One of the oldest and trusted home-made facemasks that takes care of number of skin problems like tanning, acne and dark patches if used on a regular basis. This face pack helps to remove dirt and toxins from the pores. Because of its alkalizing properties, besan also acts as a cleanser. Turmeric is primarily known for its healing and anti inflammatory properties. So, when you mix turmeric powder to this, skin burns or any other skin damage are taken care of.

Take curd and besan in a bowl, mix it well. Now add a pinch of turmeric powder and mix it again till an even paste is formed. Wash your face, pat dry and evenly apply the paste across the face. Wait for it to dry, and then wash it with normal water.

For better results, use it regularly.

#2. Rub Raw Tomato On Your Face

Rub raw tomatoes on your skin. Even I was surprised when I heard this but then decided to try it out. And guess what? It worked wonders. Believe it or not, tomatoes are blessed with secret cosmetic properties. Tomatoes reduce acne occurrences, heal itchiness, rashes, burns, and remove skin tanning other than doubling up as an astringent.

The best part about this beauty tip is it doesn’t take much time. Rub raw tomatoes on your face, leave it for about 15 minutes and wash it off with cold water. Yes, it is that simple.

#3. Multani Mitti Face Pack

We can’t stress the goodness of this particular beauty ingredient enough because of its versatility. Mix it with rose-water (gulab jal) in case you have oily skin, or with normal water or even milk if you have dry to normal skin, the results will amaze you. From working on the dead cells to adding that extra glow on your face, Multani mitti is like an all-rounder when it comes to beauty benefits. It cleanses your skin pores and removes any dirt hiding in there. This face pack also heals rashes and itchiness instantly.

#4: Egg White And Lemon Juice Face Mask

Egg white and lemon juice face mask is simple and extremely effective when it comes to cleansing the face and lightening the skin colour. Other than acting as a natural astringent, lemon is known for various skin and hair care benefits. Lemon juice also helps to remove bacteria that cause blackheads. It also acts a skin lightening ingredient. For this particular home-made beauty secret, all you would need is egg white, 2 tsp of lemon juice. Mix it well and apply judiciously on your face. Once dry, wash it away with regular water.

#5: Banana Face Mask

Why do we need to spend on expensive moisturises when we gave our good ‘ol banana to bank on? Yeah, banana face mask acts a great moisturiser and makes the skin soft and supple. Mash a banana into a paste and apply it on face and neck. Get back to doing your chores for another 20 minutes and then wash it off with cold water.

#6: Papaya, Honey And Lemon Face Mask

As much as papaya enjoys stardom in health benefits, it is equally awesome in the beauty and skin care segment. Papaya comes infused with Vitamin A which heals and moisturises dry skin, lightens scars and dark spots other than Vitamin C which helps in tightening the skin and keeping it firm. For this face mask, mash papaya (per the quantity needed), add 1 tsp of honey and ½ tsp of lemon juice, and mix it well till it becomes a lump free puree.

First wash your face and then gently apply the puree and leave it for 15 minutes till it dries. Use lukewarm water to loosen the mask. Then rinse it thoroughly with cold water and the see the difference. The face mask deep cleanses the skin and rejuvenates the skin.

#7: Potato Juice, Multani Mitti And Lemon Juice Face Mask

This face mask helps in reducing scar mask if used regularly. Take a medium-sized potato, peel it and blend it into a juice. Add 2 tsp of lemon juice along with 2 tsp of Multani mitti and mix it into a paste. Apply it evenly on your face and allow it to dry for at least 10-15 minutes. Now wash your face with cold water and see the startling difference.
