Whatsapp has decided to drop its operations on Nokia and Blackberry operating systems, as well as some old versions of Android by next year. That means Whatsapp is giving up on five million active customers who are using this popular messenger on any of these devices. The company made this announcement after completing 7 years recently.

By calling it an ‘amazing journey’ the official statement of Whatsapp mentioned about the market scenario 7 year ago in 2009 and now in 2016. The statement mentions that when they started off, it was Blackberry and Nokia who dominated the marketplace but now Apple, Google, and Microsoft hold occupies 99.5 percent of the marketplace.

Therefore, in order to focus on providing better services on the devices and operating systems that are widely used by the consumers, Whatsapp has decided to discontinue its operation on the following devices and platforms:

  • BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbian S60
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7.1

It further clarified that the kind of features Whatsapp plans to introduce certain features that will not be supported by these older devices and operating system.

In layman terms, this is high time to change your device; either upgrade the device to stay connected or downgrade the device to stay away.
