When superstar Salman Khan was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador of Rio Olympics, a controversy was sparked.

He was deemed unfit by many given his shady past, court cases and no direct association with any sports.

Salman, despite the entire furore, stayed put in the position, gaining support across the fraternity and even from his father Salim Khan.

But looks like the entire ruckus around Salman was not for any invalid reason! The Olympic goodwill ambassador apparently did not congratulate wrestler Sakshi Malik, who got India its first medal at the Rio Olympics 2016.

Sakshi, did India proud at the Rio Olympics 2016 by clenching the bronze medal in the 58 kg category to become the country’s first female wrestler to achieve the feat. With her sensational win Sakshi, who hails from Haryana, ended India’s dry spell of Olympics medals.

Post her win, congratulatory messages for her started pouring in.

Everyone from megastar Amitabh Bachchan, superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan (who will star in  a movie on wrestling ‘Dangal’) to PM Narendra Modi sent her their best wishes adding how she has made India proud.

The only exception ‘being’ ( read mean) Salman Khan.

This comes as an unwelcome gesture due to a lot of factors.

Only a few days ago, Salman had announced that he would be giving a cheque of Rs 1,01,000 to each Olympian. Soon after his announcement, the hashtag #SalmanEncouragesOlympians started trending on the micro blogging website Twitter.

His fans could not stop counting his good qualities, nice, generous, big hearted being the top adjectives used for him.

It should not be forgotten that Salman delivered one of the biggest hits of his career with a story of a Haryanavi wrestler in his Eid release ‘Sultan’. He stuck all the right chords with the movie, in which he was the wrestler who fought against all odds to bring a medal for the country. The has raked Rs 600 cr worldwide, till the last count.

It is worth a mention that Sakshi’s real life story and Salman’s reel life story culminated from Haryana to take over the world of wrestling. Both the story has a humble begning.

Though Salman’s ‘Sultan’ heroine Anushka Sharma congratulated Sakshi, but the super star is yet to spare time for 140 characters.

This is Salman’s last tweet by the time story was published.

Now the question is, when will Salman congratulate Sakhsi?

Was the love for sports just to impress viewers and make money? Perhaps only time can give these answers.
